Activities

The Graduate School offers its students multidisciplinary and internationally oriented doctoral education, during which the students will prepare their dissertations. The school has doctoral student positions funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education. As a rule these positions are being filled every four years in an open call for applications. Doctoral students receive salary from the Graduate School and they are members of university staff at one of the departments belonging to the Graduate School in Finland. In addition the school has affiliate students (partner students) who finance their research from other sources but are part of the programme. PhD students of the programme will get their degree from a Finnish university participating the programme.

The school offers to its postgraduate students supervising, education and connections to both Finnish and foreign researchers and research centres. The school arranges seminars and intensive courses on different actual topics. The Graduate School has also a tradition of international summer schools which are organized yearly in Finland or abroad. Parallel to the activities of the Graduate School, the PhD students also carry out postgraduate studies within their own disciplines. All education provided by the Graduate School is free of charge. Students may also apply grants for their conference travels from the school.
